Hi there, in this video let’s take a quick look at how to create and preview versions for an AEM Assets file, using the Adobe Asset Link panel for a creative user. Adobe Asset Link streamlines collaboration between creative professionals and marketers in the content creation process. It connects Adobe Experience manager assets with the Creative Cloud desktop applications like InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. The Adobe Asset Link panel allows creatives to access and modify content stored in AEM assets without leaving the app they’re most familiar with. From the Creative Cloud production toolbar options, choose window and from the extensions list select Adobe Asset Link. Let’s choose the AEM environment and navigate to your organization’s asset folders.
Marketers and creative users often work together iteratively to bring the best out of an asset file, which leads to creating several variations of an asset file in AEM assets. It is essential to keep track of all the changes associated with the file, giving marketers a good understanding of what changed in each version. Adobe Experience Manager Assets lets you check out assets for editing and lets you check them back in after you complete making the necessary changes. When a creative user performs a check in operation from the asset link panel, AEM assets considers the check in operation as a request to create a new version for the existing file within AEM assets. A file version with all your changes gets created, helping marketers and creative users understand how an asset file has changed over time. With the help of versioning, marketers can identify how the current asset version differs from previous version and if needed a specific saved asset version can be selected and restored as the current version. Let’s see how to do this. From your Adobe Asset Link panel, let’s check out an asset and perform some basic edit operations. For this asset, let’s perform a horizontal canvas flip to keep the subject of the image focused on the left hand side of the picture. So, now we have made a change to this image and don’t forget to save your changes in your Creative Cloud desktop application. After saving your changes, let’s check in our asset. During the check in process, let’s make sure to provide a clear description of what changes were executed for this asset. A comment makes it easy for marketers to understand what has changed. Let’s continue with checking and the assets should now be uploaded to AEM assets. All right, now let’s fish to see how this asset appears to a marketer. Let’s look for the asset file inside AEM assets. Right from the asset thumbnail, we can notice our changes. Let’s open the asset file and view its versions on the timeline. You can see that a new version for the asset file gets generated comprising of the previous state of the asset file before our last changes. And the current version indicates the latest version of the file. Let’s select the version 1.0 and you can see options to either preview this version or revert to this version. Preview version shows the asset file in its original state before our changes. A marketer can quickly spot the visual difference between a saved version of a file and its current version by using the file comparison tool. Click on the tool handle and drag it to spot how the version compares to its current version. Using the Adobe Asset Link panel, let’s make another edit for the same asset. This time, let’s convert the image to its black and white rendition. Let’s check out the asset and perform the necessary edits.
Make sure to save your changes and let’s check in the asset with the comment for the changes that we added. At this point, a new version of the asset file 1.1, gets generated in AEM assets. Creative users can also preview and view file versions for an asset using the Asset Link panel window. To view asset versions, click on the asset file or using the asset context menu. Select the file details option. By default, the current version of the file gets rendered in the panel but you could switch to other versions using the version selector drop down. Associated with each version, you can also see the version information which includes the version number, editors name and a comment made when creating a version. For the marketer an assets timeline option, provides version details which includes version name, comments and the editor details for each version. I hope I was able to show you how to create a version and preview versions for an AEM assets file using the Adobe Asset Link panel for a creative user.
